How to apply for a Pub Charity grant
Pub Charity is one of the biggest funders of amateur sport in New Zealand. Its online form is long and it wants at least two quotes for each item. The next cut-off is 5pm, 9 November 2026, and there is no December round this year.

Who can apply
- Non-profit groups set up as an incorporated society, a charity or another body promoting amateur sport, with a valid constitution or rules and credible financial statements.
- Your organisation and its members must be the direct beneficiary of the grant.
- Pub Charity does not fund start-up organisations.
- Applications in or near the suburbs or towns where Pub Charity venues are located have a greater chance of success.
What it funds
- Projects with a lasting, visible benefit to the community.
- Asset and facility funding.
- Community and sports development projects in New Zealand.
Its online form asks whether your club will keep ownership of any equipment or uniforms you apply for. In most cases it will not fund salaries and wages, catering, operating costs or certain vehicles. It never funds overseas travel, alcohol, costs you have already incurred, or something that only benefits one person.
Documents to have ready
- A bank deposit slip or bank statement in your organisation's name.
- A resolution to apply. It must name Pub Charity Limited, say what the money is for and how much you are asking for, be dated no more than 3 months before you apply, and be signed by your secretary or another executive member.
- At least two quotes for each item, where applicable, addressed to your organisation.
- Proof of non-profit status.
- Your financial accounts.
- Evidence of affiliation to a regional or national body, where applicable.
- A declaration on your organisation's letterhead, signed by at least two executive members.
- Property projects also need information on the tenure or ownership of the property.
Mistakes that cost you a round
- Leaving it to the last weekend. The form, the quotes and the signed declaration take more than a weekend of committee time. We suggest starting two weeks out.
- One quote. Pub Charity asks for at least two per item, where applicable.
- Missing 5pm. A late application rolls into the next round.
- Planning on December. There is no December 2026 round, so 9 November is the last cut-off this year.
Can you pay someone to help?
Yes. Pub Charity says an organisation may use a professional fundraiser, paid a previously agreed flat fee or hourly rate. No part of the grant may be used to pay a commission or success fee. Our advice is to keep any fee out of your grant budget altogether. Your club is still the applicant and submits under its own login.
